Set along the shores of the Adriatic Sea, Trieste is a vibrant port city where history, culture and the sea come together.
On this half-day guided tour, you’ll discover a destination influenced by Latin, Slavic and Germanic traditions, giving it a unique character unlike anywhere else in the region.
Your experience begins with a panoramic bus tour around Trieste, where your guide will point out some of the city’s most notable landmarks along the way.
The tour then continues with a stop Piazza della Liberta, from where will start the walking tour towards the impressive Piazza Unita d’Italia– the largest square in Europe that opens directly onto the sea, offering beautiful views across the Adriatic. Here, you’ll enjoy a guided walk while learning about the square’s history, its importance to the city and the remarkable architecture that surrounds it. Among the notable buildings you’ll see are the grand Palazzo del Municipio, the city’s town hall, and the historic Palazzo Lloyd Triestino, once the headquarters of a major shipping company, Ponte Rosso, Piazza della Borsa.
After the guided portion of the tour, you’ll have a couple of hours of free time to explore the city on your own. As you stroll through the old town, you’ll notice a fascinating blend of architectural styles, from ancient Roman remains to elegant neoclassical buildings. When it’s time for a break, Trieste’s famous café culture offers plenty of inviting spots to relax.
You might choose to visit the well-known Caffè San Marco, admired for its ornate interior, vintage décor and beautiful frescoed walls. Finally, return to Piazza Unita d’Italia to meet your guide and walk together to Piazza della Liberta to begin the scenic drive back to your hotel.
